Emerald Energy Plc (the “Company”) was informed by letter dated 19 December 2005 from Barclays PLC that, as at the close of business on 16 December 2005, it held through Barclays Capital Securities Ltd, Barclays Life Assurance Co Ltd, Barclays Global Investors Ltd, and Gerrard Ltd an aggregate interest in 1,991,832 ordinary shares of 0.10p each in the Company (“Ordinary Shares”), representing approximately 3.56 per cent. of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.
