Trading Update

On 24 June 2004, Emerald Energy plc (the “Company”) entered into an option agreement with Rancho Hermoso SA under which the Company has been granted an option to acquire a 50 per cent. working interest in the Algarrobo Association Contract (the “Algarrobo Contract”). The Algarrobo Contract covers the Algarrobo Block in the Llanos basin in Colombia.
If the option is exercised, the Company will have an obligation to drill the Algarrobo #1 exploration well prior to 24 March 2005.
